White Label eSIM for Travel Apps and Booking Platforms: An Integration Playbook

How online travel agencies, booking sites and travel apps add a white label eSIM — where it fits in the journey, how the API meets your checkout, and how to deliver installs.

Short answer: an online travel agency, booking site or travel app adds a white label eSIM by connecting the eSIM Signal REST API to its checkout: show plans for the traveller's destination, place the order once the booking is paid, and deliver the install link in the confirmation and in the app. Your customers see only your brand, and you earn a margin on every plan in 210+ countries and regions.

Where the eSIM fits in the travel journey

  1. On the trip page. The destination is already known, so the offer can be specific: "Data for Italy, 5 GB for 30 days".
  2. At checkout, as an add-on next to insurance and transfers.
  3. In the confirmation email, with the install link or a "get data for your trip" button.
  4. In the app's trip hub, where travellers look for tickets and vouchers anyway.
  5. In a pre-departure reminder a few days before the flight: "Install your eSIM on Wi-Fi today."

Mapping your destinations to plans

  • Match destinations once. GET /destinations returns every country and region with an id such as IT or EUROPE-USA. Map your cities, airports or trips to those ids.
  • Pick a short menu. GET /packages?region=IT returns every plan for a destination at your partner price. Show two to four of them — small, medium, large and unlimited where available — and hide the rest.
  • Handle multi-country trips. Every regional plan lists the countries it covers, so a rail tour or a cruise can be matched to one regional eSIM instead of three single-country plans.
  • Cache the catalogue and refresh it regularly. Prices and plans follow our live catalogue.

Ordering at the right moment

  • Order when the traveller has paid, not at search time. Every order is a real, paid eSIM.
  • Use your booking ID as the idempotency key. Send an Idempotency-Key header built from it, so a retried request returns the same eSIM instead of issuing a second one.
  • Tag the order with customer_ref, so you can find it again from your own booking.
  • Accept 202. Now and then a network needs a moment; a 202 means the order is accepted and paid, and the order.completed webhook follows.

Full details are in our eSIM API integration guide.

Delivering the eSIM to the traveller

Each order returns three ways to install:

  • install_page_url — a one-tap install page that detects iPhone or Android and shows the QR code on a computer. It carries no eSIM Signal branding.
  • qr_code_url — the QR code image for emails and PDFs, in your brand colour with your logo if you set one in the Business Panel.
  • The activation code — for your own in-app instructions.

Deliver it a few days before departure so the traveller installs on home Wi-Fi, and link to a clear install guide and device checker.

After the sale

  • esim.activated tells you the traveller is connected — a good moment for a "welcome to Rome" message.
  • esim.expired tells you the plan has ended — a good moment to offer data for the next trip.
  • Top-ups add data to the same eSIM: GET /esims/{iccid}/topups lists what fits and POST /esims/{iccid}/topup adds it.
  • Cancellations — if a booking is cancelled and the eSIM was never installed, refund it within the refund window and the amount returns to your balance.

Security and operations

  • Keep ordering keys on your server. Give the front end a catalogue-only key, and restrict keys to your server's IP addresses.
  • Build against a read-only test key; switch to a live key when you are ready.
  • Watch your balance with GET /balance, low-balance alerts or automatic top-up.

Frequently asked questions

How do travel apps add eSIM to their product?

They connect an eSIM reseller API to their booking flow: show plans for the destination, order after payment, and deliver the install link in the app and by email. eSIM Signal provides this as a white label REST API.

Can airlines and hotels sell eSIMs under their own brand?

Yes. As an eSIM Signal partner, any travel business can sell eSIMs under its own brand, with neutral install pages and QR codes in its own colours.

When should the eSIM be delivered to the traveller?

A few days before departure, so the traveller can install it on home Wi-Fi and switch it on after landing.

What happens to the eSIM if the booking is cancelled?

If the eSIM was never installed, you can refund it within the refund window and the amount returns to your prepaid balance.

Do I have to write my own install instructions?

No. Every order includes an install page that detects the traveller's phone and guides them through it. You can also build your own instructions around the activation code.
